Today's topic is neuroscience.
Specifically, four neurotransmitters that are all about your happiness and well-being, so that whenever you have more of them in your life, they're going to boost your happiness and well-being even more.
They're also known as hormones, but the exact wording is neurotransmitter. The reason is because you have nerve cells in your brain. So you have about 100 billion neurons. Nerve cells.
These nerve cells, fire nerve impulses. And these neurotransmitters, almost like messengers, carry that information, carrying that impulse from one nerve to the other, creating those synapses.
So when you think about these neurotransmitters, think of them as your chemical messengers inside your brain. And if you're ready, let's begin.
The first one is dopamine. Dopamine is all about your pleasure. It's all about your reward mechanism and how you actually concentrate and pay attention. Because your brain is going to reward you after you achieve something. And that achievement requires your attention. And dopamine is a neurotransmitter that's responsible for your focus, concentration, and full attention so that you can achieve that.
Put a checkmark right next to it. And when you're done and done, how do you feel? Amazing. Rewarded and a lot of pleasure.
The second neurotransmitter is called endorphin. So endorphins are all about feel-good chemicals.
In order to have more endorphins in your system, you want to have more laughs. Laughter triggers endorphins. So the more you laugh, the happier you're going to feel. And that feel-good neurotransmitter is going to be triggered all over your brain. And next thing you know, it is also going to have you relieve a lot of stress because it's also considered the main pain reliever in your body. If you have attention, if you have any kind of pain, when you laugh, when you just let go of the tension, what happens? You release. So that is pain relief. And that's why this specific neurotransmitter is also found in a lot of chemicals that give you relief.
Number three is serotonin. This is literally your happiness hormone. And this one is about your mood. When you want to change your mood and when you have more happiness and more positivity, you want to have more serotonin. Higher levels of serotonin are linked directly with higher levels of positive emotions. So when you are learning and when you are requiring more memory in your brain, like memory functions, you also need to increase the levels of your serotonin. And that serotonin is linked to daylight. Because the minute your brain is exposed to daylight, guess what? Serotonin levels increase. And that wakes you up. And that's why it's also a mood changer. And that's why it's also called the happiness hormone.
And last but not least, my favorite one, oxytocin. This is considered as the love hormone. When you hug people, when you get into some physical touch, and a little bit like deeper levels of relationship emotions like empathy, sympathy, compassion, and kindness. This is such a cute and beautiful neurotransmitter. I love oxytocin. We all want and need more oxytocins so that we can all feel loved.
So there you have it. Four neurotransmitters that are going to boost your happiness. Make sure you have a lot of those. And of course, you can dig a little bit more into these four transmitters and see what kind of food, exercise, and activities also boost them so that you can feel happier, right? That's the end result.
